Use of Natural number

Natural numbers are used for –

• Counting: For example – there are Four mangoes in the basket
• Ordering: Example – Indore is the number one city in cleanliness in India

Natural number Properties

• These are positive numbers including zero : 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 ………… ∞

• If two such numbers are added the result is again a natural number For Example 2+3 = 5, the addition of natural numbers 2 & 3 is a natural number 5

• If two such numbers are multiplied a result is again a natural number, Example: 2 x 3 = 6, Multiplication of natural numbers 2 & 3 is a natural number 6

• A set of natural numbers is typically denoted by the symbol ℕ or ℕ_0. Example: ℕ₀ = {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7……… ∞}
• Discrete: For each natural number (except 0) there is a next natural number and a previous natural number, but no in-between natural number exists.
